Why FedAfrica exists

Africa is home to more than 1.4 billion people in 54 countries, and it has the youngest population of any continent. Yet its nations trade with each other far less than the nations of other regions do. The idea of a union that could change that is not new: in 1963 the founders of the Organisation of African Unity argued over how far unity should go, and Kwame Nkrumah's answer was that Africa must unite.

FedAfrica is an independent publication about that idea: its history, its economics and the public debate around it. We study the pioneers and the struggle for sovereignty, we publish the data and the plans for trade, infrastructure and a common currency, and we open a forum to a new generation of African voices.

We publish in English, French, Spanish and Arabic, because unity cannot be built in a single language. We carry no advertising, and we want our research to stay independent of anyone who might wish to steer it.
